Release Blitz: Make Me Fall by Ember Leigh

There’s one rule in my family.

Stay away from the Daly brothers.

We were raised to know them as users. Manipulators. But I only ever saw Connor as the enigmatic senior hottie who dropped into fifth period to teach us about the perils of drunk driving.

So when my first big girl job out of college ends up with us working at the same company, it’s heart throb city all over again. Except he’s way ahead of the game. Successful, talented, put together. I’m just a frumpy twenty-something in a quarter life crisis who doesn’t know a glue stick from a makeup highlighter.

He would never want me, even though he’s all I ever wanted in secret. So when we cross paths one night at the bar and one drink leads to another, he slaps me with an offer I can’t refuse.

Accompany him back to Bayshore, flight included.

Only stipulation? Pose as his girlfriend.

Our families will flip, but I’m not strong enough to say no to those baby blues, especially if it means I’ll have a chance to spend the next two weeks with my adolescent heart throb.

Review: The Lion Heart by Carrie Aarons

The Lion Heart is book two of the Rogue Academy series. When I read Jude’s book The Second Coming, I knew this couple would be in the next book. But I really didn’t like Kingston very much–an arrogant, privileged, selfish jerk who takes everything and everyone for granted including his gift and natural ability in football or soccer. Kingston has never known anything but soccer. He kicked his first ball shortly after learning how to walk due to both parents being former soccer superstars. Since his parents are soccer royalty that also gave him certain privileges and advantages in life including attendance to the Rogue Academy at the ripe age of seven. His upbringing was more of a disadvantage to him–high expectations and his father’s verbal and sometimes abusive nature closed his heart off to others. To say he’s damaged is an understatement. Which is why he keeps his relationships casual, no one can hurt or touch his heart.

Poppy Raymond is an international supermodel; her life appears to be picture perfect. She attends the most exclusive clubs and parties. She flies all over the world for exotic photo shoots. It’s anything but. She returns to an empty flat with only her cat to keep her company. She never takes an interest in the opposite sex–not after what happened when she was 15. Something that changed her forever. When she met the arrogant soccer player at the pub, something changed. A spark. She still wanted to smack his smug face, but he also made her feel things she never felt before. She wanted things and him. But she doesn’t get close to anyone. Her past taught her lessons.

Can two damaged hearts heal each other?

Blurb

He’s supposed to be the ruler of this kingdom.
The prince poised to take his rightful place on the pitch.
Instead, he plays the jester, shunning his legacy.
Only I am privy to his lion heart.

Kingston Phillips is the heir to England’s football dynasty. The offspring of two of the world’s greatest players, the expectations set on his shoulders could crush the universe. But the golden-haired Adonis chooses to live his life as a game; a series of nightclubs, brawls, pranks and different kit chasers parading through his sheets.

I’m the last woman he should chase, and I’ve told him so. My cheeky mouth and icy demeanor guard the secret no one can learn. But when the Casanova I’ve been avoiding becomes the bloke next door, he quickly begins to thaw the frost around my heart. Kingston shows me the ferocious, loyal, protective side of himself that no one else gets to witness.

I begin to realize that he’s just as damaged as I am.
That as much as I try to deny it, we’re the same.
And … that might just be our undoing.

Review: Drive Me Wild by Julie Kriss

Book 1 of Riggs Brothers series

Emily Parker is returning home to help her fraternal twin and to support her mother. Her mother, the first female cop in the country–the woman who is getting a lifetime achievement award. It’s not like Emily is a complete failure. Just because it took her a matter of hours to pack up her life doesn’t mean a thing. It’s not like she had a terrific job in Chicago, a horrible internship that she didn’t think twice about after completing it.

Her luck doesn’t get any better when her car breaks down a few miles from town. Oh and the man who she gave her virginity to comes to her rescue. A man that she has never quite gotten over. The man she compares all others to. After her last relationship she has sworn off all men, including Luke Riggs. No, especially him.

Emily Parker. She could have her choice of men then and now. She chose him. The cop’s daughter. He was the kid from the wrong side of town. Everything about them is wrong. But they fit. Always have. She is why he can never settle down. Every woman can’t compare to her. He’s tried. He went all over the country trying to find someone to replace her. Emily is irreplaceable. What happens when they cross paths again or he gets another chance with her?

How can he prove to Emily that he can be the man she needs? How is he going to fix his dad’s rundown auto shop? Luke has more issues than solutions. He should stay away from Emily especially since he thinks her mother was investigating his father. And now, him since he took over his father’s shop. He knows in his heart that Emily is it for him. Now, he just has to prove it.

Review: Lovestruck by Lila Monroe

Book 3 of Lucky in Love Series

At first, I wasn’t sure what to make of this book. I know I shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Buuuut, we all do. I’ve recently read a number of books with the cartoony cover–they were bad. I had very low expectations. I also kept putting off reading it. This is part of my own library, but a friend of mine gave the ebook. I decided to forgo my biases and at least read the first three chapters. I’m glad I did.

The book is funny. Ruby’s antics and miscommunication with Will just adds to the hilarity. Her circle of friends just stir up more laughs with hot guy pics being thrown at the bride to be instead of hiring strippers. Their drunk antics. Ruby was burned by Will before. She wants to remember how much and deep he hurt her in college. Will wants her to remember their happy memories from college when they used to hang out and study. And their most recent memories and feelings that occur this week leading up to the wedding.

Ruby has a huge secret. Will doesn’t know what to make of comments Ruby made to Brooke about him. Their miscommunication continues…can they finally get on the right lines of communication?

Review: Everly Dalton’s Dating Disasters by Claire Kingsely

This is a prequel to Kingsley’s Faking Ms. Right. If I had a choice I would’ve read this before reading Faking Ms. Right because while I was reading Faking Ms. Right there were many hints about Everly’s horrific dates. These dates are so bad. But, oh so funny!!! This is definitely a must read.

The dates range from a gay guy “trying something different” to a first date wedding to a guy getting his peen stabbed.

Review: We Own Tonight by Corinne Michaels

Review

A different type of trope from Michaels. I’m used to the rock star falls madly in love trope or even falling madly in love with the one night stand trope which this book is a bit of both. But rock star falls madly in love with a cop with the female lead being the cop is different–a good different.

To say that Heather’s life is busy is an understatement of the year. She works long hours to keep the city safe and during her lunch break and after work; she cares for her chronically ill baby sister. Oh and she works with her ex-husband who is now her direct supervisor. During a night out with her girls, she decides to let loose and do something she’s never done before–a one night stand.

Eli Walsh, the lead vocals for boy band Four Blocks Down and actor. He rejoins his old boy band every so often for tours in between filming. Normally, he picks a girl to take to his trailer. This show is the same. Except, she runs the moment, he uses the restroom. She literally runs from him. He’s never had a woman run from him. Or yell at him. Hell, he doesn’t even know her name until she pulls him over a few days later. She’s hot as hell in uniform. She thinks he just want a fling. He wants so much more. He wants a lifetime with her. How can he do that when his life is in New York and her’s is in Tampa?

This is one of the few books I bought this summer. I have re-read it twice now. It’s sweet how Eli wants to break his cycle and have something more. The lengths he goes to to prove his love to Heather. There are numerous scenes with Heather and her sister where I was bawling.

Review: Melt for Him by Lauren Blakely

Book 2 of Fighting Fire Series

I struggle with the hot firefighter trope since so many of the men in my family are firefighters. It’s a bit hard to picture hot sexy firefighters when your father, grandfather, and uncles do the same job. I feel that I need to overcome that since there are so many good books within this trope. I do know a thing or two about it since I practically grew up in the firehouse. Like I would literally just hang out there even while dad was out at a fire. The dispatcher and I became good friends. I understood Megan’s fears. I have the same ones even though my father didn’t die in a fire. He did come home injured quite a few times and even had severe burns. Blakely depicted Megan’s fears and insecurities perfectly.

Megan lives a wonderlust life moving from town to town and job to job. The one thing she always comes back to–her art…ok two. Art and her family. Her brother, Travis and Megan had to care for each other after their father was killed fighting a fire. It left their mother broken for many years. That formed an unbreakable bond between the siblings. Each sibling gained something from that experience. Travis wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps to be a firefighter. Megan vowed to never fall in love with one. One kept their promise. The other broke it.

Becker left Chicago after two of his buddies died right beside him. He has carried that survivor’s baggage with him ever since. He moved to Hidden Oaks to start over. He opens a bar. He keeps going back to his true passion. Being a firefighter. He volunteers at the local fire department where he finds a new family. One night with a sexy stranger puts all that in jeopardy especially his friendship with Travis.
